Meets at 7:00 pm, the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. There is an optional potluck that happens 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm every Monday, feel free to bring a dish to share and have dinner with friends.
All genres and topics welcome.
We write longhand, bring paper and pen.
Writing time is dedicated, no chitchat. We can socialize before or after. If someone wants to discuss his or her work with anyone, it can happen at another time.
Optional contribution is $2.00 per meeting to contribute to Sacred Paths Center for use of space. If this is a hardship, come anyway.
This is how we work:
Keep writing, keep pen to paper and if you can’t think of anything else to write, then repeat the original prompt, or what you first wrote.
You can decide not to write from the prompt, and start with: “What I really want to write is…” or use the prompt and/or time to continue writing something you have already been writing.
Write in any genre you want, stories, novels, personal memoir, poetry, dialogue or whatever suits your fancy.
Writers have the option of reading what they have written.
We do not give feedback or critique any work read. Occasionally there might be an emotional response, but we want to provide a safe, supportive place for writing and reading rough, generative work.
The steps for each writing exercise is:
1. Someone chooses an amount of time to write.
2. A prompt, or lead is given.
3. Everyone writes
4. Everyone has the option to read or not.
Possible prompts or leads might come from a writing book, off the internet, visuals such as – photos, postcards, painting, tarot cards etc., words cut from newspaper or magazines, sentence or lines from books, poetry or song lyrics.
